Browser and device compatibility

Penn Medicine desktop and mobile websites are designed to take advantage of the functional and security features of the latest two stable versions of major web browsers. This does not include beta or development releases, which are not supported.

Penn Medicine web standards employ responsive design to ensure compatibility across a wide variety of generally used device types.

Overview

Users may prefer one browser over another due to varying levels of efficiency, performance, privacy, and security. Upgrading browsers to the newest versions as they become generally available is the best way to avoid potential security exposures and experience the designed features of the website. Likewise, users may have access to a wide variety of device types that are supported by our responsive design.

Browser compatibility

The browsers and devices currently supported by Penn Medicine web sites and mobile applications are listed below.  Other browsers and older browser versions may still work, but with a degraded user experience.

Desktop browsers supported

  • Chrome
  • Edge
  • Firefox
  • Safari

Mobile browsers supported

  • Chrome for Android
  • Safari on iOS

Other browsers and older browser versions

Limited testing for basic functionality is performed on the oldest browser version used by at least 2% of the Penn Medicine user base.

Our design system and standards support the following:

Device/OS support

Our responsive design supports the latest two versions of all major mobile operating systems, including iOS, Android, and Windows.

Device screen size/resolution

Optimized for general mobile and tablet screen sizes, as well as for larger screen sizes such as a TV display. Supports higher screen resolutions.
